Volunteers' Week 2011: 1st to 7th June 2011

Volunteers’ Week is an annual event which celebrates the fantastic contribution that millions of volunteers make across the UK. The Week plays a huge part in raising the profile of the millions of volunteers who regularly contribute to society, while inspiring others to get involved too.

To highlight this contribution, there is a burst of activity during 1-7 June when organisations hold events and activities to highlight their volunteers and the volunteering that do. From showcasing the different volunteering roles on offer, taster sessions and team challenges with new partners, to volunteer recruitment events, awards ceremonies and launching new volunteering campaigns, hundreds of events take place throughout the country.

Here in Newcastle the Volunteer Centre will be celebrating the contribution of the volunteers who help out at the Volunteer Centre. In addition we are also promoting some low cost opportunities for your organisation to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution of your volunteers.

As part of Newcastle’s Volunteers’ Week Celebrations Newcastle City Council and the Volunteer Centre Newcastle will be welcoming you to find out more about volunteering in our city and celebrating all the amazing time and skills that volunteers already give.

Why not drop in for a cup of tea, a slice of cake and a chat; meet some of the organisations who can offer volunteering opportunities and also talk to people who have been volunteers themselves to find out what it’s like first hand. This is an event for anyone interested in volunteering so please feel free to drop in at any time between 11 and 2; we’ll very much look forward to seeing you there.
