Support on offer to people interested in volunteering or who are already volunteering Volunteer Centre Newcastle supports individuals looking to volunteer within Newcastle. We do this in the following ways: Information on this website The information on these pages are here as a helpful guide to support you with your interest in volunteering. if you feel that you would prefer to talk to us directly then please contact us. By talking to us you are not committing yourself to becoming a volunteer, you are merely expressing an interest and we deal with each enquiry on an individual basis. Responding to your 'Do It' enquiries and applications If you make an enquiry or application via 'Do It' for any roles we have advertised on behalf of our registered organisations, we will contact you directly by email, explaining your options and how to proceed with this enquiry. Please look at our quick guide for finding a role on the Do It website. One-to-one Guidance Sessions A guidance session is your chance to check what options and roles are available to you. We may ask you questions about your availability, interests, skills or any barriers you may feel you have to volunteering. Once we have a picture of what you want to do we will guide you through our database to find if possible a selection of roles to consider. You do not have to make a decision at this time as we will print out your options for you to consider in your own time. If you want to meet again to discuss your options we will book the earliest appointment available. We acknowledge than not everyone is ready to start volunteering straight away but we will aim to support you through the process. We understand that not everyone is available to attend the centre during our working hours: guidance sessions can also be done by email and over the telephone. All guidance sessions must be booked in advance and we will usually be able to see you within four weeks. We do have rooms available for private discussions which are normally shared with other staff members. Please let us know if you do want to have your discussion in private. Confidentiality At the volunteer centre we use an internal database to record your details. This helps us to remember any agreements we have made or to maintain contact if you still haven't found the right role for you. The details kept on this database are only accessed by the Volunteer Centre Newcastle team and are only shared if you have expressly requested that we contact an organisation on your behalf. Volunteer Centre staff share office space with each other. If you have booked a guidance session and wish to discuss any concerns you may have in private, we can use a different room within our office, but you must give us advance notice so we can make these arrangements. Monthly volunteering emailing If you give us an email address and permission to contact you we will send out a monthly volunteer eNewsletter to you highlighting 'one-off' volunteering opportunities that we hear about, along with roles that local groups are finding hard to fill. The eNewsletter contains the organisation's details and you can contact them directly rather than coming through the centre. You can unsubscribe from these emails at any time and still receive support from the Volunteer Centre. If you change your email address but want to continue to received the eNewsletter, please let us know. The eNewsletters are available on our website. Ongoing support There is no time limit for how long we can support you in your search for volunteering. If you have not been able to find a role you can come back to us at any time, or if you did find a role but would like to consider more options we would welcome your return. We understand that people's circumstances can change, and that means that what people want out of volunteering can change too. For further information please check out our Common questions for volunteers. If you require information or advice on an issue and cannot find the relevant details on this website please contact us. |
