Positive Choices Positive Choices is a new Volunteer Centre Newcastle project launched in June 2009 and funded by Northern Rock Foundation and the Department of Health until March 2012. Positive Choices aims to give support to those people who would like to volunteer than might have confidence issues, anxiety issues, depression or any other mental health issues which might stop them from thinking about volunteering as a positive activity. As an organisation or mental health service provider you may contact us because you are supporting someone who might need Positive Choices support to access volunteering. You can download a copy of our leaflet to give to the person you are supporting here. We have a range of ways that you can make the referral – self referral or by downloading the referral form and emailing or posting it to us. We will endeavour to work holistically with you and the beneficiary to ensure the best possible outcomes are achieved and that needs are met in the best possible way. Part of this referral system included a risk assessment which can be completed by the person, the referral agency or with support from a member of the Volunteer Centre Team. Each individual signed up to Positive Choices is given a guidance session to discuss their skills, needs, and expectations and how we can support them to potentially achieve them. For futher information contact Victoria Potts, the Positive Choices Volunteer Centre Officer. Part of our role is also to assist you in increasing the diversity of volunteers within your organisation, to offer advice and support around any issues around good practice. Through our newsletters we will also inform our network of any new legislation or fundraising recourses regarding volunteering. |
