Newcastle Volunteering Forum The Newcastle Volunteering Forum is a peer-led group facilitated by Volunteer Centre Newcastle. The Centre aims to facilitate a Forum each quarter if the demand is there. It is an informal and friendly place where volunteer co-ordinators can meet each other to exchange ideas and best practice and contribute to the development of volunteering within Newcastle.
Anyone whose organisation is registered with our Volunteer Centre is entitled to come to NVF meetings and receive e-mailings from our Centre. If your organisation is already registered with us please email us with your name, organisation and the email address or addresses you want us to use for contacting you. As part of our annual evaluation of our services to organisations, we ask you the volunteer co-ordinators and managers, to nominate themes for the following year for discussion and areas of interest. One of the topics that seems to be faced by a number of volunteer involving organisations is how can they keep their existing volunteers longer. This is the topic for the November 2011 Volunteering Forum. ‘Keeping the volunteers that you have invested in’ FORUM FULLY BOOKED - please phone the Volunteer Centre to add your name to the reserve list. The Newcastle Volunteering Forum, Thursday 24th November Coffees/Teas from 1.30pm, Forum starts 2pm prompt 5th Floor, MEA House, Newcastle upon Tyne. • Is your volunteer training expensive and lengthy? • Are you disappointed when many of your ‘volunteers’ leave before they have been productive? The Volunteer Centre is leading a Forum to discuss the issue of volunteer retention among organisations who invest heavily in volunteer training. Forum synopsis: Volunteer retention is a perennial issue amongst volunteer involving groups, but it particularly affects groups that have volunteer roles which involve a lot of expensive and lengthy training before a volunteer can carry out their role. Typically these roles involve face to face contact using advice, guidance or support skills to groups of people who may be distressed, disadvantaged or vulnerable in someway. We are in a time when the nature of volunteering is evolving, and many volunteers give time in the expectation that they will build up experience for their careers. So how do organisations react to this challenge and are there ‘easy fixes’ which will improve the retention of volunteers? The Volunteer Centre team will be leading a discussion on the issue of retaining volunteers who have had a lot of training invested in them by their organisations. We will look at best practice in volunteer retention but we want to open up the forum to encourage attendees to share their experiences and ideas on this issue. There will also be input from experienced Volunteer Co-ordinators who have had the frustration of watching their trained up volunteers leave before they have ‘given value’ back to their organisation. Pre booking is essential: To book your FREE place at the Forum please contact Adam Stewart on 0191 232 6616 or email him at astewart@csv.org.uk |
