About the centre
Volunteer Centre Newcastle opened in September 2005 as a joint project between Newcastle Council for Voluntary Service and CSV Training and Enterprise North East. It was decided that from April 2008 CSV would run the Volunteer Centre exclusively.
We offer a free, quality service to anyone interested in volunteering and to any organisation that involves volunteers.
Based within the City centre of Newcastle the Volunteer Centre is easily accessed by both potential volunteers looking for information and organisations looking for volunteers or assistance on operational matters.
Volunteer Centre Newcastle is a member of Volunteering England and follows the six core functions as laid out by them. These are:
Brokerage/Signposting
We give support, advice and seek to match the skills and interests of volunteers with the needs of volunteer involving organisations.
Marketing
We aim to stimulate and promote volunteering at a local, regional and national level. This is done through publicity, community activity, events and campaigns.
Good Practice
We promote and encourage good practice in working with volunteers to all volunteer involving organisations. We organise and deliver training for potential volunteers, volunteers, volunteer managers and the volunteering infrastructure.
Developing Volunteering Opportunities
We work in partnership with statutory, voluntary, private sector agencies and faith groups to develop volunteering and increase community participation. We target specific groups who face barriers to volunteering and work creatively to develop imaginative, non-formal opportunities for potential volunteers.
Policy Response & Campaigning
We have an awareness of and share information on any Government proposals and/or polices which may impact in volunteering. We will take the lead in campaigning if necessary.
Strategic Development of Volunteering
As a local ‘expert’ on volunteering, we often inform strategic thinking and planning at a local and regional level.
